PURPLE TO PÄRT

PURPLE TO PÄRT pairs two semi-autobiographical pieces: "Te Deum" (1995 revised 2017), set to the music of Arvo Pärt, is a poignant reimagining of one of Rioult's earliest works, enveloping the audience in a spiritual aura as the central character embarks on a profound journey toward truth and beauty. In stark contrast, "Fire in the Sky” (2017) blazes with an energetic homage to Rioult's early dance club days, where the pulsating hits of Deep Purple fueled a desire for a life in constant motion. Both pieces showcase Rioult's ability to seamlessly blend personal inspiration and spiritual exploration into captivating choreography. Of the program, Critical Dance expressed "it’s clear to me that Rioult is an exceptional choreographer...RIOULT Dance NY is worth seeing at every opportunity."

RIOULT CLASSICS

RIOULT CLASSICS includes three dances: "Bolero," a dynamic interpretation of Ravel's iconic score, showcased at the 2005 City Center Fall for Dance Festival, mesmerizing audiences with its electric energy and unrelenting crescendo. "Views of the Fleeting World," inspired by Hiroshige's woodcut prints and set to J.S. Bach's "The Art of Fugue," delicately explores life's ephemeral nature, praised by Gus Solomons, Jr. for its "elegance and emotional depth". Lastly, "Wien," premiered in 1995, unveils a poignant narrative set to Ravel's "La Valse," providing a thought-provoking glimpse into European society during the interwar period. Backstage praised it as "a spine-chilling work of choreography.”

FAMILY PROGRAM

In this dynamic and imaginative dance performance, choreographer Pascal Rioult draws inspiration from the rhythmic narratives of Jean de la Fontaine's "Fables." Using the universal language of dance, Rioult breathes new life into well-known tales like the "Crow and the Fox" and the "Tortoise and the Hare," among others. Originally created in 1997, this dance piece has undergone a revitalization, with Rioult infusing it with fresh costumes, lighting, and choreography, all set to an original commissioned score by composer Paul Salerni. This family friendly presentation, suitable for all ages, offers the opportunity to involve local actors and children in the production, allowing them to perform alongside the Company dancers.
